Leipzig Trade Fair is strengthening its involvement in Asia and opening a representative office in Singapore on Monday, 28 April 2008. In the presence of prominent representatives from the Southeast Asian city-state’s political, business and tourism sectors, Leipzig Mayor and Chairman of the Leipzig Trade Fair Supervisory Board Burkhard Jung and Managing Director Wolfgang Marzin will inaugurate the new office. Under the responsibility of the subsidiary Leipziger Messe International, tailored trade-fair and event concepts for the international market will be developed and implemented in Singapore.
“Leipzig Trade Fair and the city of Leipzig are sending a clear signal of their commitment to Asia,” says Mayor Burkhard Jung. “The newly opened representative office in Singapore will help spread the good reputation of Leipzig as an economic region and a city of trade fairs and culture throughout Southeast Asia.”
The first project for the Singapore office’s four employees—three local experts and one secondee from Leipzig—is organizing the second Games Convention Asia (GCA), to be held from 18 to 20 September 2008. The first GC Asia in autumn 2007 attracted 81 exhibitors and more than 70,000 visitors to Singapore’s Suntec International Convention & Exhibition Centre. Around 100 exhibitors are expected in 2008.
“Singapore is the gateway to the booming Asia-Pacific market and opens up fascinating new opportunities for the global games industry,” explains Wolfgang Marzin, Managing Director of Leipziger Messe GmbH. “GC Asia is the only event in this region focused on digital entertainment, computer games, entertainment, educational software and hardware. Organizer Leipziger Messe International aims to establish GCA as the most important industry meeting place in the Asia-Pacific region and open the way into new markets for international companies and developers.”
During their two-day stay, Burkhard Jung and Wolfgang Marzin will hold numerous discussions with representatives from Singapore’s political and business communities, including Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang. The focus will be on opportunities for cooperation between the Leipzig and Singapore regions in energy and the environment, logistics and healthcare.
