The market for game software is booming. According to Media Control, revenue in Germany alone rose to 149 million euros in the first quarter of 2008. This represents an increase of 41 percent compared with the same period last year.
To sell successfully not only in the domestic market but also in other countries, the software must be adapted to the circumstances of each gaming audience, in other words localised. At Localization World, which takes place in Berlin from June 9 to 11, 2008, game software vendors will receive comprehensive information on effectively planning and implementing localisation processes as part of a workshop.
Michaela Bartelt, General Manager Territory Localisation at Electronic Arts, a renowned provider of computer and video games, Electronic Arts GmbH, comments on the requirements involved in localisation: “Localisation is a competitive advantage in the games industry for opening up new markets and target groups. Just as with other entertainment media, customers expect games to address them in their own language. The quality standard for game localisation is high, because the result should never feel ‘translated’.”

The Standard Process in Game Localisation Everything in the workshop taking place on June 9, 2008 revolves around game localisation. Developers and vendors will discuss together how they can improve current workflows, communication, processes and tools. The workshop addresses current topics on the agenda such as quality and testing procedures in game localisation, as well as the challenges of international marketing.
Participants will thus receive valuable information to further improve localisation quality and thereby also increase product revenue. The initiative is led by an advisory board consisting of leading representatives from the games and localisation industries.
Localization World takes place from June 9 to 11, 2008 at the Maritim Hotel proArte in Berlin. It is organised by the Localization Institute and Multilingual Magazine in cooperation with the Globalization and Localization Association (GALA). The fee for attending the complete conference is 895 euros. Those wishing to visit Localization World for only one day pay 500 euros.
