ProSiebenSat.1 Produktion, a subsidiary of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group, is testing a transition to file-based workflows with Sony XDCAM. The company ordered the PDW-700 camcorder and the PDW-HD1500 recorder, Sony’s latest generation for tapeless recording on Professional Disc.
Sony says the PDW-700’s format flexibility supports ProSiebenSat.1’s expanding 16:9 offering, more efficient workflows and compatibility with current and forthcoming picture formats. The broadcaster also ordered its first PDW-HD1500 recorders.
Südwestrundfunk tested the new XDCAM generation with Sony and, following positive pre-series results, ordered three PDW-700 XDCAM HD 422 camcorders for a self-contained production area. The devices, together with PDW-U1 XDCAM USB drives, were scheduled for delivery from the end of May and were intended to support a coordinated file-based workflow using Sony Professional Disc. The PDW-700 records 1080i or 720p at up to 50 Mbit/s on Dual Layer Professional Discs.
