Quark, Inc. announced that Dogan Gazetecilik A.S., one of Turkey’s leading newspaper publishers, will continue its successful newspaper production with QuarkXPress. The company will implement the current version, QuarkXPress 7, on 114 computers. Dogan Gazetecilik holds a 23 percent share of the Turkish newspaper market by circulation and 44 percent by reach.
The company’s publications include Milliyet, among other daily newspapers. Founded in 1950, the political paper is now among Turkey’s four best-selling newspapers and has a highly influential readership profile. Milliyet distinguishes itself through compliance with internationally applicable journalistic principles and high ethical standards, making it the country’s undisputed leader in reliability.
Other Dogan Gazetecilik daily newspapers are Radikal, Fanatik, and Posta. The liberal Radikal publishes detailed reporting on business and industry, foreign affairs, art, and culture, as well as contributions from the country’s most respected intellectuals. Current world events are closely followed, with relevant reports from around the world. Fanatik pioneered the specialist sports-newspaper format focused on football, while Posta, with its easy-to-read style, is the publisher’s mass-market paper and Turkey’s best-selling daily newspaper.$$$$
The introduction of QuarkXPress 7 at Dogan Gazetecilik is part of an update of the company’s entire IT landscape. Elma Bilgisayar Ltd., which has worked as an integration service provider for Dogan Gazetecilik since 1990, supported the move to QuarkXPress 7 and the redesign of workflows. “Our editorial and graphics staff have gained extensive experience with QuarkXPress over the years. By continuing our good partnership with Quark and upgrading to QuarkXPress 7, we can make full use of our team’s existing expertise and avoid costly training,” reported Yucel Okan Senturk, Technology Director at Dogan Gazetecilik.
“It is especially valuable to us that QuarkXPress 7 supports Turkish and that PDF files can be created directly from within the application, without taking the detour through an external PDF generator. Innovative features such as Composition Zones will help optimize our processes.
