Tandberg, a provider of telepresence, high-definition videoconferencing systems and mobile video solutions, recently delivered its 10,000th Personal Telepresence System. The customer is TNT, a courier and express-service provider that plans to use videoconferencing systems to reduce business travel and improve its CO2 footprint. The sales success of Tandberg’s Centric 1700 MXP Personal Telepresence System reflects growing interest in personal videoconferencing systems for individual desks.

TNT, Europe’s largest B2B express service, received the 10,000th Tandberg Personal Telepresence System. Under its internal Planet Me program, the company set itself the goal of drastically reducing carbon-dioxide emissions. More extensive use of videoconferencing systems for internal and external meetings is intended to save many business trips while maintaining visual contact between staff, customers and suppliers.

“Video communication is an important part of our efforts to reduce carbon-dioxide emissions,” said Peter Bakker, CEO of TNT. “We want to reduce the number of business trips by 20 percent this year by having our employees communicate more by video instead of travelling.”

“The trend is clearly toward personal videoconferencing systems that enable employees to start video calls from their own desks,” said Thomas Nicolaus, Managing Director of Tandberg Central Europe. “More and more customers are integrating videoconferencing technology into their everyday communication to act in an environmentally friendly way and increase productivity.”

Tandberg launched an HD-capable Personal Telepresence System in the third quarter of 2006. The desk-designed Tandberg Centric 1700 MXP offers CD-quality audio and is equipped with a high-resolution camera and premium 20-inch widescreen LCD. The fully integrated system functions both as a videoconferencing system and PC monitor, enabling seamless real-time personal collaboration.
