At the NCTA Cable Show in New Orleans, Seagate Technology presented its Seagate Showcase storage solution. The new product range expands the storage capacity of digital video recorders (DVRs), so favourite films or television programmes no longer need to be deleted. Products in the Seagate Showcase family are also compatible with Motorola’s high-definition digital video recorder (DVR) set-top portfolio.

The new Showcase products give television and film fans the ability to store even more series, videos and sports events. With starting capacities of up to 1 TB, users can record up to 200 additional hours of high-definition video or 1,000 additional hours of standard-definition television. Plug-and-play connection through USB 2.0 or eSATA interfaces simplifies setup. The stylish design fits seamlessly into entertainment centres and complements existing A/V equipment.

“Today’s users demand ever more storage for high-definition video and high-fidelity audio as part of their home-entertainment systems,” says Patrick King, Senior Vice President of Seagate’s Consumer Solutions Division. “We are convinced that the Seagate Showcase product line will take its place next to receivers, speaker systems and televisions as an essential component of entertainment centres. We are delighted by our collaboration with Motorola and the possibilities it offers users.”

“Motorola is addressing exponentially increasing customer demand for video with flexible, cost-effective solutions,” comments Larry Robinson, Vice President of Set Top Product Management at Motorola. “Compatibility with Seagate’s Showcase storage solution gives customers additional attractive storage options for their entertainment content.” The new Showcase family is equipped with the recently introduced Pipeline hard-drive range designed for DVRs. With particularly low noise for bedroom use, low power consumption and the ability to support up to twelve HD streams simultaneously, Seagate Pipeline drives set a “gold standard” for high-definition performance and capacity. The Windows Vista-certified drives are an ideal solution for home media centres.

Seagate and Motorola—market leaders in digital set-tops with more than 73 million devices shipped—are working together to develop external DVR storage solutions. Connecting a Seagate Showcase product with the supplied eSATA cable immediately increases the capacity of these DVRs, so favourite films or series no longer need to be deleted. The 1 TB Seagate Showcase hard drive was introduced exclusively at Motorola’s stand at Cable Show ’08 in New Orleans.

Seagate Showcase products are expected to be available through the Seagate website from the third quarter of 2008.
