From September 16–19, more than 700 representatives of the animation industry will meet in Ludwigsburg for the 19th edition of Cartoon Forum, the annual industry forum promoting co-productions, financing and distribution of animated series for television and new media.
A total of 60 projects from 14 countries will be presented to television representatives, investors and co-producers from across Europe. The aim is to secure financing more quickly. The projects, a total of 360 hours of animation, have a combined budget of more than 190 million euros. France once again leads with 15 projects, followed by Germany with 11 and Britain with 10. In addition to the 14 participating countries, a further six were involved in the 60
projects presented, once again confirming Cartoon Forum’s pan-European profile.
The latest trends in the European animation market, 2D series formats also designed for new distribution channels such as mobile phones, the Internet and video games, continue on the road to success. The main target group remains children aged six to nine. Since it began in 1990, Cartoon Forum has developed into a springboard for European animated series productions.
Organised by CARTOON – European Association of Animation Film, Cartoon Forum helps promote European animation projects both within and outside Europe.
With one of Europe’s most important animation schools, Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, the historic city of Ludwigsburg in the very heart of the state of Baden-Württemberg is the ideal setting for the next Cartoon Forum.
Cartoon Forum 2008 is supported by the European Union’s MEDIA programme, the Baden-Württemberg State Ministry, the City of Ludwigsburg, Wirtschaftsförderung Region Stuttgart (WRS), Filmförderung Baden-Württemberg (MFG) and Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.
