The German version of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Release Candidate 0 (RC0) is now available as a download. SQL Server 2008 provides a comprehensive database platform for mission-critical applications that is secure, reliable, scalable, and easy to manage. Developers can use it to create new applications that store and process all types of data on any device. This gives users faster access to relevant information for decision-making. The release candidate can be used for 180 days. The final version is expected to be available in the third quarter of this year.

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 makes it possible to run mission-critical applications securely and with high performance, reduce the time and cost involved in developing and managing applications, and gain detailed insight across an entire company. A Resource Governor coordinates the processing of multiple database operations using individually defined limits and priorities. Important processes thus receive preferential access to greater system performance. Advanced data encryption and comprehensive data auditing simplify compliance with regulations.

More productive database-application development is supported through the introduction of business entities such as customers, orders, and products. In business intelligence, geographic information is becoming increasingly important in business applications. Among other features, SQL Server 2008 offers new spatial data types that companies can use to create location-aware applications.
