Without warning, people jump from high-rise buildings, throw themselves in front of moving cars, or strangle one another. In M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Happening,” one disaster follows another. With 142,000 admissions, the mystery thriller is the highest new entry in the media control cinema charts at number three.

After “The Sixth Sense” (1999), “Signs” (2002), and “The Village” (2004), the cult director opens the next chapter. Zooey Deschanel and John Leguizamo appear alongside lead actor Mark Wahlberg.

The second newcomer enters the cinema chart at number four: “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.” The romantic comedy from producer Judd Apatow and director Nicholas Stoller drew 109,000 viewers to cinemas from Thursday to Sunday. After Peter (Jason Segel) is left by his long-term girlfriend Sarah (Kristen Bell), he takes a recuperative vacation in Hawaii—and encounters his ex with her new boyfriend. Turbulence is inevitable.

“Sex and the City – The Movie” remains at the top of the chart. It sold 227,000 tickets during its third weekend. Nearly 1.5 million visitors have followed the experiences of the four New York friends since its release.

“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” follows in second place with 185,000 viewers. Around 2.3 million film fans saw the fourth adventure within four weeks.

“What Happens in Vegas” (52,000 viewers) completes the top five.
