LiveCycle ES Update 1 includes components for rapidly developing engaging applications, automatically converting two- and three-dimensional CAD data into a PDF document, and the new Adobe Solution Accelerators, which help users accelerate the implementation of enterprise applications.
The update introduces Adobe LiveCycle Content Services ES, an integrated collection of content services, as well as Adobe LiveCycle PDF Generator 3D ES, a solution for automatically creating and combining PDF documents containing engineering product data. The update incorporates Adobe Flex 3 and Adobe AIR functionality and uses the reach of Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Reader to involve employees, citizens, customers, and partners in business processes and make information accessible to them. With this update, Adobe also extends the protection capabilities of LiveCycle Rights Management ES software to data from Microsoft Office 2007 and PTC Pro/ENGINEER.
“With the update to the LiveCycle ES suite, we enable customers to implement rich, engaging applications more quickly and efficiently using integrated content services,” says Rob Tarkoff, Senior Vice President, Business Productivity Business Unit at Adobe. “Users benefit from new features and opportunities to increase productivity. Expanding the LiveCycle technology platform makes it possible to create applications that reduce paper use, accelerate decisions, and comply with regulatory requirements.”
Content management across organizational boundaries
“LiveCycle ES Update 1 brings us one step closer to our goal of optimizing patient care while reducing the hospital’s administrative costs,” says Tim Stettheimer, CIO of St. Vincent’s Health System. “Because LiveCycle ES integrates with existing systems, simplifies the use of applications for collecting and processing data, and offers advanced content management functions, we can do more even with limited IT resources. We are constantly weighing what we want to do against what we can do. LiveCycle ES lets us close that gap.”
With LiveCycle Content Services ES, companies and organizations establish business processes or applications that comprehensively integrate existing content. Content can thus be managed more efficiently and cost-effectively, even across organizational boundaries. This solution component gives users extensive options for creating, jointly editing, storing, managing, and securing content directly in the context of enterprise applications. LiveCycle Content Services ES is the result of a partnership between Adobe and Alfresco Software, a leading provider of open-source content management solutions.
Three-dimensional collaboration via PDF
The second new component, LiveCycle PDF Generator 3D ES, allows two- and three-dimensional file content to be exchanged throughout the product development process. Users benefit from seamless communication, faster development cycles, and lower costs. Product developers can create rich, complex PDF files containing the object’s complete features and dimensions, even when they are reviewed with the free Adobe Reader. LiveCycle PDF Generator 3D ES automates the conversion and integration of more than 40 CAD and other formats. These can be protected and incorporated into review and collaboration processes.
Adobe also announced the new Adobe Solution Accelerators today. The Solution Accelerators are complete solutions and best practices that enable users to develop engaging, customer-focused applications quickly. They include the Enrollment Solution Accelerator and the Correspondence Management Solution Accelerator. Both are tailored specifically to the needs of financial institutions and public administration when involving customers and citizens in business processes and personalizing communications. The Solution Accelerators aim to shorten application development times and increase return on investment (ROI) for Adobe customers.
