Tandberg, the world’s leading provider of telepresence, high-definition videoconferencing systems and mobile video solutions, is launching the Tandberg T1, the first telepresence system for videoconferencing in Full HD quality. Its large single display offers the highest resolution currently available among telepresence systems. Combined with its sleek Scandinavian design, it is the ideal system for ad hoc telepresence meetings in executive offices or small conference rooms.

Thanks to the Tandberg T1 telepresence solution, videoconference participants feel as though they are sitting at the same table, regardless of their actual location. This is achieved with a Full HD 1080p LCD screen measuring 165 cm (65 inches) diagonally and a new PrecisionHD 1080p camera. The camera is integrated close to the screen to improve eye contact between participants. The T1 is designed as a standards-based system and can therefore connect quickly and easily to other standards-based systems.

“More and more companies are using telepresence systems for internal and external meetings. At the same time, demand is growing for cross-vendor endpoint compatibility,” said Andrew Davis of Wainhouse Research. “Systems such as the Tandberg T1 deliver the highest telepresence quality while seamlessly integrating existing investments in other telepresence and videoconferencing systems.”

The T1’s design is visibly shaped by the manufacturer’s Norwegian origins, with numerous Scandinavian design elements. The engineers have given the system a very clean and appealing form. The innovative design is complemented by a clear on-screen user interface and straightforward PC connectivity. Tandberg’s environmental commitment is reflected in the T1’s particularly low power consumption.

“When we developed the T1 system, we followed the new design characteristics we introduced at Tandberg: high quality, user-friendly, clean lines, simple and visually appealing,” said Torkel Mellingen, product designer at Tandberg. “We chose the Scandinavian design approach to present participants in the best possible setting.”

The Tandberg T1 is the manufacturer’s first telepresence system based on the new standards-based Tandberg Codec C90, which enables 1080p resolution. Participants communicate in Full HD quality while high-definition data can be exchanged at the same time.

The Tandberg Telepresence Codec C90 is also available as a standalone product for integrators. Its connections include 12 HD video inputs, four HD video outputs and an integrated audio mixer with 16 audio inputs and eight audio outputs. The many connection options make the new codec highly flexible and suitable for a wide range of applications. System integrators no longer need external mixers, video switchers or converters when equipping conference rooms or other environments. The C90 can also be paired with any standard audio and sound system without compromising sound quality.

The Tandberg T1 and Codec C90 will begin shipping in October 2008.
