ZEIT ONLINE is responsible for selecting the reports. The journalistic and editorial independence of ZDF and ZEIT ONLINE remains fully guaranteed. ZEIT ONLINE does not itself supply content to ZDF’s online offerings. ZDF charges standard market rates for its video content. The content is made available to ZEIT ONLINE users free of charge.
“Up-to-the-hour and international video reporting is very important to ZEIT ONLINE,” said ZEIT ONLINE editor-in-chief Wolfgang Blau. “We therefore took plenty of time to evaluate the various partnership offers from private and public-service broadcasters. ZDF’s consistently high quality convinced us,” Blau continued.
“With ZEIT ONLINE, we are guaranteed that ZDF’s video reports will appear in the best journalistic context,” said ZDF editor-in-chief Nikolaus Brender. “The partnership between ZEIT ONLINE and ZDF primarily benefits young people seeking quality-focused information in images and text across every platform. This is a good outcome from the calm, fact-oriented contract negotiations between the two organisations.” The reports are licensed through ZDF subsidiary ZDF Enterprises. The contract has a term of two years.
“ZEIT ONLINE and ZDF are a wonderful fit—they are two brands that stand for the highest quality. The partnership is an important step in the continued expansion of ZEIT ONLINE and a major enrichment of our video offering,” said ZEIT managing director Dr Rainer Esser.
