ZDF Director-General Markus Schächter presented the Television Council with new proposals for developing the broadcaster’s digital strategy. To reach viewers under 50 more effectively in future, the digital documentary channel is to be converted into a family channel.
At its meeting in Mainz on Friday, the ZDF Television Council re-elected Ruprecht Polenz as its chair by a large majority. The 62-year-old CDU member of the Bundestag from Münster has headed the body since 2002.

ZDF is parting ways with presenter Andrea Kiewel at the turn of the year. ZDF Director General Markus Schächter stated in Mainz: "Surreptitious advertising in ZDF programmes is not acceptable. Andrea Kiewel's appearances in several programmes, in connection with the now-known details of her PR contract with the Weight Watchers organization, have destroyed the basis of trust between us."

Viewers in the Kaiserslautern area who receive their TV programmes digitally via antenna from the Kaiserslautern-Dansenberg transmitter must restart the automatic channel scan on their DVB-T receiver on December 4. The reason is a change of channels.
