Adobe Acrobat 9 was now available. The new version of the software comprehensively changed the process of creating and exchanging electronic documents. Acrobat 9 offered innovative features that enabled organizations and individuals to communicate with one another in an engaging and professional way. Acrobat 9 natively supported Adobe Flash technology and made it possible to combine a wide range of different content in a PDF Portfolio. Access to real-time features also allowed colleagues to navigate through a PDF document together.

Improved Collaboration Options

Acrobat 9 helped organizations operating worldwide address one of the key challenges of the time: communication among widely dispersed teams of colleagues, partners, and customers. Acrobat 9 had already impressed both long-standing and first-time users in financial services, government, the judiciary, manufacturing, and publishing, including companies and institutions such as EDS, Allianz Deutschland AG, the Court of Cremona in Italy, Penguin Group, Dai Nippon Printing, and Kyowa Hakko.

Acrobat 9 offered integrated support for Adobe Flash technology. Videos and applications compatible with Adobe Flash Player could be embedded in PDF documents. Marketing departments, for example, could use Acrobat 9 to convert websites containing multimedia content into PDF documents. The PDF could be shared with users of the free Adobe Reader for review and commenting. Adobe Reader 9 was expected to start up to twice as fast as earlier versions.

Customizable PDF Portfolios

Acrobat 9 made it possible to combine a wide range of different content in a single document, the new PDF Portfolio. In PDF Portfolios, users could assemble different media types in a compressed PDF file and customize it with numerous professionally designed layouts and appropriate branding. A salesperson, for example, could create a proposal document for a potential customer containing charts, tables, and images, along with a branded video in which the CEO discussed the company’s latest products.

Acrobat 9 also provided access to Acrobat.com, a suite of hosted services available as a public beta at http://www.acrobat.com. This new real-time collaboration capability for PDF documents allowed users to guide a group of participants through a PDF in real time. This ensured that every participant was on the same page and communication proceeded without misunderstandings.

The Acrobat 9 Product Family

The Acrobat 9 product family included Acrobat 9 Standard, Acrobat 9 Pro, and the new Acrobat 9 Pro Extended. The most comprehensive solution, Acrobat 9 Pro Extended, included Adobe Presenter, which could convert Microsoft PowerPoint presentations into multimedia PDF files.
