Hamburg postproduction company Optical Art was expanding. The high-tech specialists in digital film processing had significantly increased their market share in the theatrical and feature-film segment. Alongside rising demand, the company had also responded to growing technical requirements in the increasingly digital film-production business and distinguished itself with innovative production methods.
Optical Art was already implementing the international Digital Cinema standards of DCI (Digital Cinema Initiatives), the umbrella organization of the US major studios, and was capable of creating a Digital Source Master (DSM). This master forms the basis for the film’s subsequent distribution chain.
Optical Art was equipped not only for cinema’s digital future. In conventional production processes, too, most films were processed by Optical Art as a digital intermediate, meaning the digitized processing of films shot on analog media and representing a preliminary stage of Digital Cinema.
Christian Burgdorff, managing director and founder of Optical Art together with Harald Lehmann, was pleased with the positive business development: “Production processes
are becoming more specialized, and that applies to theatrical films as well as every other medium.
This means specialists are needed who can meet these requirements. Optical Art is positioned correctly here, as the market is confirming in a very gratifying way.” Harald Lehmann added: “With our move, we expanded our processing capacity by adding a second grading suite to accommodate further growth. Film productions increasingly have to meet higher standards that require extensive digital postproduction.”

Founded in 1987, Optical Art offered a comprehensive range of digital film-processing services at locations in Hamburg, Berlin, and Düsseldorf. Optical Art
participated in numerous German film productions and contributed to many award-winning works. Since 2001, Optical Art had belonged to the VCC Perfect Pictures AG group of companies.
