Founded in mid-2007 and already established in the German market by the middle of this year: Thilo Röhrig, Chairman of Blu-ray Group Germany, looks back on a successful twelve months. “For us, there is no longer any question that Blu-ray will prevail in Germany. More and more companies are joining our group and want to help move Blu-ray further ahead.”
His strategy is to pool expertise with representatives from the consumer electronics, IT and entertainment industries and develop joint projects, thereby inspiring even more companies to embrace Blu-ray and educating the public about the new technology.
With Enteractive GmbH, Imagion AG, Senator Home Entertainment and msm-studios GmbH, Blu-ray Group Germany has recorded important additions in the past four months alone. Since April 2008, FAM, the Society for the Promotion of Audiovisual Media, has been a partner of the group.
“The industry’s interest in our work is tremendous validation for us and an indication of the enormous potential of the Blu-ray format,” said Thilo Röhrig. “We are growing steadily—and the mix is right.”
Indeed, the latest new members alone include one film studio and three mastering studios. With the association representing German video-program providers, the German Blu-ray group now has a strong partner at its side. “Our network thrives on bringing together people who not only have visionary ideas but also want to implement them. Everyone has different areas of focus—but a common goal: the success of Blu-ray,” said the chairman, adding: “If we continue growing at the same pace in the second half of the year, we will have doubled our membership by New Year’s Eve.”
