Documentary productions submitted to the festival must not have been publicly screened before 1 October 2007. For animated-film productions, the cutoff date is 15 March 2007.
A television broadcast or theatrical release in Germany before the end of the festival excludes a film from participation in any competition. Films on 16 mm or 35 mm are accepted, along with video productions in High Definition, Digital Betacam PAL and Betacam SP PAL formats.
