BBC World News, the BBC’s international 24-hour news and information television channel, will also begin broadcasting from its new studio at BBC Television Centre in London on Monday. The studio was enlarged as part of the channel’s name change and is receiving a more creative and daring look. It features a larger graphics screen, and presenters will be able to use a “soft set area” for live interviews. This will provide a more dynamic and flexible environment for both breaking news and longer news programmes, while allowing presenters to appear more informally in front of the large screen.
At the same time, BBC World News will broadcast the one-hour news programme World News Today, presented by Mishal Husain, during prime time in the Asia-Pacific region. The news programme airing at 11 a.m. German time will also be extended from 30 minutes to one hour. Live coverage and breaking-news reports will be expanded accordingly. Lucy Hockings and David Eades will present the programme together.
Richard Porter, head of news at BBC World News, commented: “We have already implemented several significant changes this year with the new BBC World News name and the rebranding of the channel. Now that all our international news expertise is being brought together in one location, we can further expand our television, online and radio reporting. All these changes, including the new studio and news programmes, are intended to emphasize our conviction that we want to provide our viewers with only the best international news and information.”
