The XDCAM EX family has gained new members. The new models include the PMW-EX3 camcorder and the PMW-EX30 deck. The PMW-EX3 offers functions similar to the successful PMW-EX1, but features a semi-shoulder camcorder design and an interchangeable-lens system supplied as standard with a Fujinon 14x wide-angle zoom, as well as additional functions such as Genlock In and Timecode In/Out.

The PMW-EX3 can also be used as a compact studio camera. For this purpose, the camcorder is compatible with the RM-B150 and RM-B750 remote-control units, allowing basic camera parameters such as gain, iris, white balance and gamma to be adjusted through an eight-pin connection. Other technical features of the PDW-EX3 include image processing with three 1/2-inch Exmor CMOS sensors and variable resolutions of 1080i and 720p at a data rate of 35 Mbps (HQ mode), as well as an HDV-compatible resolution of 1440 x 1080 pixels at 25 Mbps (SP mode). SDI, composite, component and S-Video outputs, along with i.LINK In/Out, provide a wide range of connection options.

PMW-EX30

Alongside the expanded camera line-up, Sony is presenting the PMW-EX30, its first solid-state recorder/player. The deck can switch between 1080i and 720p and, thanks to its HDMI connection, is also suitable for use with an external monitor. The PMW-EX30 features HD-SDI input and output, making it suitable for recording live productions in HD and copying between different HD formats. The deck can also be used to read or write SxS PRO cards and to ingest content into existing nonlinear HD and/or SD editing systems, as it offers DV downconversion via iLINK.

32 GB SxS PRO Memory Card

Sony will shortly launch an SxS PRO memory card with a capacity of 32 GB. It enables even longer HD recordings of up to 100 minutes in Full HD quality (1920 x 1080) at 35 Mbps, or 140 minutes at 1440 x 1080 resolution and 25 Mbps.
