Following an eight-week beta phase, ProjectWizards is releasing Merlin 2.6 today as a free update. The most important new feature is that projects can now also be edited over the internet. With the optional web module, Merlin makes every project available for editing in a browser, regardless of the operating system being used. Users of Safari 3, Firefox 3 and Internet Explorer 7 only need to open the start page and can then edit Merlin project files within their assigned user permissions.
A free demo version of the web module is included with every version of Merlin. Registered users can serve up to ten additional users simultaneously via a browser. Merlin’s sophisticated web presentation can also be used without the web module. On request, the new HTML export function prepares project files for viewing in a web browser.
Merlin 2.6 also offers improved importing of MS Project 2007 files as well as detailed refinements to the user interface. Workspaces and definitions for columns and styles, for example, are much easier to apply. Merlin 2.6 naturally also includes the usual bug fixes. A list of all changes is available on the website http://www.merlin2.net.
Frank Blome, managing director of ProjectWizards, said of the new Merlin 2.6: “I spoke with a great many users during the beta phase. Enthusiasm for the web capability is extremely high, and I am pleased that we are clearly on the right track—especially when I look at the web version of Apple’s MobileMe!”
Pricing and Availability
Merlin 2.6 costs EUR 145 excluding tax, while each web module costs EUR 95 excluding tax. This supports up to ten simultaneous online connections (sessions). Merlin 2.6 is available now for download at http://www.merlin2.net, where the required licences can also be purchased.
