“Technology has changed dramatically since we began working on Wallace & Gromit in 1994. Although we still plan to produce our stop-frame feature films traditionally using 35 mm Mitchell film cameras, the share of digital production technology has now increased substantially. For our stop-frame
commercials and television series, by contrast, we have been using digital capture technologies for some time. The new Wallace & Gromit project is therefore an excellent opportunity for us to familiarise ourselves with the new digital production workflow.
We use high-quality digital still cameras together with Stop Motion Pro V6, which is a great solution for us because it allows us to play back high-resolution animation footage in real time. Creative decisions can therefore be made and implemented immediately. Because Stop Motion Pro can communicate directly with and control digital SLR cameras, directors and animators can work at a quality level that was previously unavailable to us,” says Ian Fleming, Head of Production Technology at Aardman.
