Toshiba SDD is introducing six new 2.5-inch hard drives with a Serial ATA (SATA) interface: the MK8054GSY with 80 GB, MK1254GSY with 120 GB, MK1654GSY with 160 GB, MK2554GSY with 250 GB, and MK3254GSY with 320 GB. Despite its standard height of 9.5 millimeters, the high-capacity MK4058GSX offers an enormous 400 GB. Users can conveniently transport large amounts of data with this drive without restricting their mobility.
Users do not have to compromise on performance either: thanks to their high data density of up to 477 Mbit/mm2, the Toshiba hard drives require only one or two platters and therefore deliver consistently high data throughput rates.
With “Silent Seek” technology, the top-of-the-range MK4058GSX, which operates at 5,400 rpm, works especially quietly and offers the maximum capacity of 400 GB, together with an 8 MB cache. Given the steadily growing demand for storage space, the hard drive is equipped for large volumes of data. The MK4058GSX reliably stores even large multimedia collections containing music tracks, YouTube videos, and thousands of digital-camera photos.
The platters in all the other drives rotate at a fast 7,200 rpm and use a generously sized 16 MB cache. This makes them the first choice for users who demand the highest performance from a hard drive.
With figures between 0.0015 and 0.011 W/GB, the new Toshiba drives are highly energy-efficient and are manufactured in an especially environmentally friendly way under strict “Green IT” guidelines, without the use of halogens. Toshiba’s continued commitment to making hard-drive production as “green” as possible is regularly confirmed by independent institutions. For example, environmental organization Greenpeace awarded Toshiba top marks in its quarterly electronics guide. Toshiba currently ranks second in Greenpeace’s ranking of environmentally friendly companies.
