Tandberg, the world’s leading provider of telepresence, high-definition videoconferencing systems and mobile video solutions, has received the 2008 Frost & Sullivan Global Market Leadership Award. The company received the award for its leading market position in videoconferencing endpoints and infrastructure systems during the previous year. The latest figures for the second quarter of 2008 confirm the company’s success and Tandberg’s leadership position.

Market share in the telepresence and videoconferencing industry was one of the decisive criteria for the award. In 2007, Tandberg generated revenue of US$630.5 million, representing growth of nearly 51 percent compared with the previous year. Tandberg therefore grew significantly faster than the dynamic visual-communications market as a whole, which recorded growth of 39 percent over the same period. This makes Tandberg the leading provider of videoconferencing endpoints and infrastructure products.

The latest figures for the second quarter of 2008 also confirm Tandberg’s market leadership. Revenue totaled US$194.9 million, and Tandberg sold 16,483 units. “Our customers see how video communications are positively changing their business and are therefore deploying more and more endpoints,” says Thomas Nicolaus, Managing Director of Tandberg Central Europe. “Last quarter’s revenue figures also reflect our market-leading position in network products. They also demonstrate the efficiency of our partner network, through which we can offer complete video solutions and services.”

“Tandberg has experienced impressive revenue growth in recent years. The reasons lie in the company’s strengths in technology and sales strategies,” says Krithi Rao, Industry Analyst at Frost & Sullivan. “Customers value Tandberg products above all for their high quality, ease of use and innovative features.”

According to Frost & Sullivan, Tandberg has been able to expand its market position primarily through an efficient sales policy. This includes selling end-to-end solutions comprising endpoints, video bridges and supporting infrastructure. Thanks to their compatibility, infrastructure products such as the Tandberg Management Suite (TMS) software solution and Video Communication Server (VCS) also allow integration of products not made by Tandberg.

Frost & Sullivan also found that Tandberg is steadily improving interoperability with video systems from other manufacturers. This increases value for customers whose videoconferencing infrastructure includes systems from several vendors. Tandberg expanded its existing partnership with Microsoft, for example, and offers business-quality video systems compatible with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007.

“As demand for videoconferencing grows, the need for scalable infrastructure and open systems compatible with other communications technologies is also becoming essential,” says Thomas Nicolaus. “The key to our growth is high-quality video-communications solutions that help companies implement a unified-communications strategy.”

Frost & Sullivan presents the Market Leadership Award annually to companies that have achieved a market-leading position by introducing focused market strategies. Award recipients have demonstrated outstanding capabilities at every level of the market-leadership process. Frost & Sullivan also recently named Tandberg the 2008 “Global Video Conferencing Company of the Year” for achievements in product development and market expansion that accelerated the use of videoconferencing in companies.
