gamearea FRANKFURTRHEINMAIN will again appear with a joint stand at Games Convention in Leipzig. Compared with last year, the initiative established through the commitment of Weber Networking and Cliffhanger Productions is significantly expanding its presence at Europe’s leading fair. Keen Games, Deck 13, Tiger Team Productions, Cliffhanger Productions, MultiMediaManufaktur, Weber Networking and GAMEplaces all participated last year. They are now joined by Like Dynamite, Proud Music, Roessler PR and aurea, making the gamearea stand considerably larger. There is also positive news regarding sponsors: the organisers have secured Wirtschaftsförderung Frankfurt as a new sponsor, while the Hessen-IT programme, which is presenting the European Innovative Games Award for the first time this year, is again supporting the joint gamearea stand.
Game developers can enter the EIGA 2008 competition until 31 August. “As a gamearea partner, we want to use the joint appearance at GC to draw focused attention once more to this prize, which we have created together with the European Commission,” said Christian Flory, Games Market Project Manager at the Hessen-IT programme of the Hesse Ministry of Economic Affairs.
EIGA 2008 honours Europe’s most innovative games and offers total prize money of €35,000. The ceremony takes place in Darmstadt on 6 November.
“For Frankfurt-Rhine-Main, EIGA is a genuine gain,” said gamearea initiator Joerg Weber of Weber Networking.
He hopes the generously funded award and high-level event will develop an impact noticed beyond the region. During the previous year, numerous institutions and initiatives — including Wirtschaftsförderung Frankfurt, Hessen-IT, gamearea and its supporters, and GAMEplaces — successfully worked to expand the region’s games cluster further, Weber added.
