High performance is being redefined: Alienware, a provider of high-performance desktops, notebooks and entertainment systems, now offers the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 in all its desktop PCs. The ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 embodies what hardcore gamers had previously only dreamed of: unrestricted graphics performance with 2.4 teraflops, 1,600 stream processing units and 2 GB of dedicated GDDR5 memory for even greater performance in PC games and HD video playback. For the first time, hardcore gamers can take advantage of GDDR5 memory technology. A full 2 GB clocked at 1,800 MHz provides higher memory bandwidth for unprecedented frame rates. DirectX 10.1 support and, for the first time, 24x anti-aliasing deliver impressive graphics for upcoming blockbuster games. Environments, landscapes and even facial features appear more realistic than ever. Greater depth and clarity over distance also help players identify opponents more easily.

Double Impact with Two Hearts

Although “X2” already denotes two graphics processors, each with an RV770 chip on the card, that is still not enough for Alienware. The gaming-system specialist also offers configurations with extraordinary quad-GPU power. Three of Alienware’s four desktops support two ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 cards in an ATI CrossFireX configuration.

High definition is also becoming increasingly important to entertainment enthusiasts. HD purists now have new tools for enjoying high-resolution content. Blu-ray films are displayed at full 1080p resolution, while games and other media can be played at resolutions up to 2560 × 1600. Enhanced DVD upscaling allows the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 to reproduce conventional DVDs at near-high-definition quality.

“The graphics performance of the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 is a perfect addition to our desktop systems,” said Christian Wolff, marketing manager for DACH at Alienware. “Gamers will love the combination of ATI graphics and Alienware performance.”

“With the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2, AMD continues to focus on high performance and first-class technology, making it the perfect choice for Alienware’s high-performance systems,” said Matt Skynner, vice president of marketing at AMD’s Graphics Products Group. “Together with Alienware, we are working to redefine expectations for graphics performance and realism in upcoming games. This is part of our commitment to gamers to provide ‘The Ultimate Visual Experience™.’”
