As a child, Afro Samurai is forced to watch as his father, an honorable warrior, is killed in a duel by the ruthless assassin Justice. Justice steals the legendary Number One headband from the dead man, granting its wearer godlike powers.
Rather than kill Afro too, Justice mocks the boy and arrogantly leaves him his own Number Two headband. The two bands are linked by a mysterious power: while the wearer of the Number One headband can be challenged only by the owner of Number Two, any common robber or highwayman may attack the owner of Number Two.
Years later, Afro Samurai has grown into a perfectly trained samurai, yet the young warrior must regularly defend himself against attacks by hired gangs of killers and fame-seeking lone fighters. Afro Samurai handles every challenge with coolness and ice-cold precision, driven by a single goal: to find Justice and avenge his father’s murder.
Mile by mile, Afro Samurai approaches Justice’s mountain fortress, accompanied by his talkative companion Ninja Ninja and always ready to kill anyone who stands in his way. Before the final confrontation with Justice, however, the young samurai’s abilities are put to a severe test. The bloodthirsty Empty Seven Clan wants his Number Two headband—and even for Afro, the legendary warrior monks are formidable opponents…
