More than 70 computer-games experts from over 20 countries will share their knowledge and discuss ideas and new approaches in more than 50 talks and panel sessions through September 19. Highlights of the first conference day included keynotes by Michael de Plater of Ubisoft and Peter Molyneux of Lionhead Studios. The conference is taking place as part of Games Convention Asia, held September 18–20 at the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Center.

GC Asia was officially opened today by Seto Lok Yin, Assistant Chief Executive Officer of the Media Development Authority, together with Wolfgang Marzin, chairman of the management board of Leipziger Messe GmbH. “Our gathering in Singapore, the media centre of the Asia-Pacific region, will generate new ideas and opportunities for successful cooperation in the games market,” Marzin said in his opening address. “GCA is a platform for bringing together the business models of different nations and building bridges in multiple directions.”

Jörg Zeißig, Managing Director of Leipziger Messe International, said: “The motto of this year’s GCAC, ‘Inspire Yourself’, is intended to encourage the international games industry to share its knowledge and talent at the conference, helping develop the next generation of computer and video games. We are proud to have secured outstanding speakers who make this industry meeting in Singapore a premier event for the Asia-Pacific region.”

Peter Molyneux was among the first keynote speakers, addressing “Creating Believable Game Worlds”. “It is fantastic to observe the many changes taking place here in Asia, and it is great to see the international industry now turning its attention to them,” he said. “It is becoming clear that more and more talent from around the world is coming together—the United States, Europe and Asia—and it is exciting to see what developers create.”

The GCAC programme features speakers from more than 20 countries, including Peter Molyneux, Cevat Yerli, Mario Wynands, Tom Crago, Allan Simonsen, Don Daglow, Joonmo Kwon, James Gray, Tom Felices, Melissa Lee, Sean Kauppinen, Alexander Fernandez, Peter Paul Gadi, Bob Wallace, Feargus Carroll, Keith Liu, Jason Della Rocca, Henry Jenkins III, Gary Mi, Ragnar Tornquist, Arne Peters, Michel Kripalani, Garett Wiley, Chris Natsumme, Maxime Villandre and Kok Khwang Ng.
