Video Contest on the GC — Games Convention Leipzig Blog

The first weblog to continue beyond its trade fair is inviting visitors to submit their Games Convention 2008 videos.

The GC — Games Convention 2008 closed its doors several weeks ago, but Europe’s leading trade fair for digital entertainment and video games continues on the GC blog. Visitors to the official GC blog are invited to share videos from their visit to Games Convention 2008. Valuable prizes are available, including a games package worth €200 and a trip for two including accommodation and admission to GC — Games Convention 2009.

A dedicated channel was created for the competition on the YouTube video platform. The submitted films can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/gcspace. They are uploaded through a form available on the GC blog. To prevent infringement of licensing rights, six short pieces of music are available for amateur filmmakers to mix into their videos. This music was produced specially and exclusively for GC.

The video competition runs until the end of September. During this period, all participants are encouraged to generate as many views as possible. “This can be achieved through personal recommendations or posts on blogs and forums, for example,” explained Peggy Schönbeck, Project Director of GC — Games Convention. A games package of the winner’s choice worth €200 will be awarded as a special prize to the creator of the video with the most views.

Two GC fan packages, each containing a GC beanbag with footrest and a GC key holder, will be raffled among all participants. First prize is a trip for two to GC 2009, including two nights in a four-star hotel and full-event GC admission tickets.

The aim of the competition is to give the gaming community further insights into the Leipzig Games Convention and keep the GC blog active. “We received an incredible amount of feedback during and after GC, and user participation in the blog was higher this year than ever before,” said Stephan Berger, Head of Online Communications at Leipziger Messe. “We want to use this momentum to involve our visitors creatively.” The GC blog is the first trade-fair weblog to continue beyond the event itself and be maintained continuously. The first weblog supported by a German trade-fair company launched in 2006.
