IPTV Award 2008 Ceremony at Munich Media Days

The German IPTV Association will present its awards on 30 October, with 36 nominations across four categories.

The German IPTV Association will present the coveted German IPTV Award 2008 at a gala event during Munich Media Days on 30 October from 6:30 p.m. Creative and innovative IPTV ideas will receive prizes worth more than €45,000 across four categories. The award is organised by the German IPTV Association and continues a tradition successfully begun in 2007 as part of a funding programme by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Since 6 October, 36 nominations have been confirmed for final assessment by the expert jury.

Described by the organiser as the largest IPTV award of its kind, it is aimed at agencies, companies, universities, freelancers, school pupils and students. Partners of the German IPTV Award 2008 include nacamar GmbH, MSN Germany, Deutsche Bank and other supporters of the German IPTV Association. Media partners are the trade publications Horizont and iBusiness, consumer magazine TV Movie, and press service press1.

“IPTV brings together two killer applications from the media world,” said Alexander Schulz-Heyn, chairman of the German IPTV Association: “the emotional world of television and the wealth of information on the web.” The association aims to promote this potential and help small and medium-sized companies turn their visions into profitable reality. According to the association, Germany currently has more than 850 IPTV channels, with new channels being added almost daily. “IPTV development has only just begun. We are certain that more and more viewers will switch from conventional television to IPTV,” Schulz-Heyn predicted.

Who will take home the IPTV Award 2008, worth more than €45,000, will be revealed at the gala event during Munich Media Days on 30 October 2008 from 6 p.m. Attendance is free. Registration is available on the association’s website, which also provides a list of nominees.

The award aims to cover every important aspect of IPTV production and presents prizes in the categories Promising Business Models, Most Innovative Format, Most Innovative Technology, and Outstanding Creativity/Outstanding Design. Since 6 October, 36 nominations have been confirmed for final assessment by the expert jury.
