Offering up to 7.5 TB (7,500 GB) of capacity and hot-swappable hard drives, the 5big Network supports seven RAID modes, including RAID 5 and RAID 6, providing flexibility and strong data protection.
“The LaCie 5big Network is an optimal offering for workgroups and medium-sized offices that need RAID storage,” said Edin del Mar, LaCie product manager for SOHO NAS solutions. Small businesses gain large capacity, additional security and a complete solution for protecting business data.
As storage requirements grow, users can expand the system’s capacity by connecting external drives through its high-speed USB port or three eSATA ports. Regular incremental backups can also be configured easily.
Designed by Neil Poulton for a modern professional office, the system uses an elegant aluminium tower with five lock-protected removable drive bays. It can be stacked to save space. A browser-based access and management system lets administrators configure data sharing, storage and editing for multiple users without burdening a central server. Active Directory Support simplifies integration into Windows networks, while Wake on LAN supports IT administration.
For optimized backup, the package includes three licences each of Genie Backup Manager Pro for Windows and Intego Backup Manager Pro for Mac, both with disaster-recovery options.
Compared with conventional four-drive RAID towers, the system consumes 25 percent less power. Its cooling system is said to be 37 percent quieter despite accommodating an additional drive.
