Sleeping Beauty Sleep Study

A worldwide sleep study reveals interesting findings: 21 per cent of Germans would like to be awakened “by a kiss,” just as in the Disney classic Sleeping Beauty.

In the film Sleeping Beauty, Princess Aurora is cursed by the evil fairy Maleficent and falls into an eternal sleep until she is rescued by the kiss of her true prince. To mark the DVD and Blu-ray release of the Disney classic’s two-disc Platinum Edition, Nielsen NRG conducted an independent worldwide sleep study unlike any carried out before.

How would you most like to wake up in the morning? Which of your dreams would you like to come true? Where and how do you prefer to sleep? These were among the questions answered by 500 people in each country. The study revealed surprising and highly entertaining findings about sleeping and dreaming.

Did you know that:

  • 64 per cent of German respondents dream of “living happily ever after,” just as in a fairy tale?
  • Germans go to bed at 11:38 p.m. on average and get up almost exactly seven hours later, at 6:37 a.m.?
  • people in Germany like to drink a glass of wine before bed, whereas the British prefer a glass of milk or a cup of tea?
  • almost half of all respondents in Germany make coffee first after getting up, while 61 per cent of French respondents prepare a proper breakfast?

  • 61 per cent of respondents would like to take a break more often?

Although we all share the basic need for sleep, our habits, attitudes and preferences differ widely.

SLEEPING BEAUTY goes on sale on 16 October 2008. The film is available as a two-disc Platinum Edition on Disney DVD and Blu-ray Disc.
