Consumers who purchase an external storage device from LaCie can take advantage of this special service and create unlimited online backups for one year from the time of installation. The service is provided by Carbonite.
LaCie recognized the major importance of secure digital media for private and professional use and therefore joined forces with Carbonite, Inc., a pioneer in online backup technology. The result of the partnership is that every LaCie hard drive purchased gives users access to Carbonite’s award-winning service.
For one year after the software is installed, Carbonite automatically backs up the data on the LaCie hard drive. New or modified files are identified and then encrypted twice before being transferred via HTTPS (SSL) to a protected data center. The data is stored there in encrypted form, maintaining confidentiality. Backups are performed only when the computer’s system resources are not fully utilized, so the process does not affect performance.
“Given the quality of the information users store on our hard drives, we want to offer customers an optimal concept built on our hardware expertise,” says Philippe Spruch, Chief Executive Officer of LaCie. “With LaCie One Year Unlimited Online Backup, we provide unlimited online storage for one year. In doing so, we demonstrate the importance of backup strategies for protecting data and underline our commitment to supporting users in this area.”
LaCie is known for developing security technology products for Mac, PC and Linux systems. With LaCie One Year Unlimited Online Backup, the company aims to increase the overall value for consumers who manage their digital content using external hardware. LaCie One Year Unlimited Online Backup will be available to PC users from November; a Mac version will be released at a later date.
