Two years after his worldwide box-office hit “BORAT!” with Sacha Baron Cohen, which also premiered in Toronto, the “Seinfeld” writer returns with a new provocative film topic: religions and their excesses in our world. His protagonist, the politically incorrect and Emmy-winning television talk-show host Bill Maher, asks questions and provides answers in the best Harald Schmidt manner about what religions might be like—though not necessarily in that order.
The title’s coined word says it all: RELIGULOUS combines “religious” and “ridiculous.” Successful actor, writer and television producer Bill Maher was sent by Larry Charles on a critical journey around the world to explore the state of the major religions in a heartily irreverent manner. Provocative interviews about faith and God, interwoven with politics, produce a documentary of exceptional quality, with plenty of humor and intelligence.
