With a symbolic push of a button, Minister-President Dr Jürgen Rüttgers launched the development phase of Telebono, the first privately operated television service for the over-50 generation. Two years of work had led up to this moment. The North Rhine-Westphalia media authority and the ZAK have now granted a nationwide licence for a full-service channel. Telebono is also the new name of the first channel dedicated to the second half of life.
Minister-President Rüttgers stressed that he believed in its success because it was time to pay greater attention to the increasingly influential over-50 demographic. Speaking on the sidelines of this year’s Zukunftsforum in Bonn, Rüttgers said: “It is good that we were able to secure the channel’s location in North Rhine-Westphalia. This and the other new target-group channels beginning in digital television are pointing the way for the new generation of media use.”
Alongside Max Schautzer, Bonn-based BEST Broadcast Entertainment and Sports Television AG is a shareholder in Telebono. The company was established in North Rhine-Westphalia with support from state politicians and operates several new target-group services and an IPTV platform.
Max Schautzer thanked the Minister-President for his evident support and also praised the state government and state media authority for their professional understanding of the new, innovative developments being established particularly by BEST AG as it develops the new digital television programming market.
