Digital recording, mixing with professional plug-ins, fast editing without excessive mouse clicks, audio analysis of percussive material, and rapid, straightforward time and pitch correction—all free of charge? The SAE edition of Ardour for Apple OS X makes this possible, according to the developer.
In April 2007, SAE Institute began sponsoring development of Ardour’s new editing model. The collaboration between Paul Davis, Ardour’s founder and developer, and Armand Klenk, Head Instructor Audio at SAE Institute in Munich, focused on porting the previously Linux-only software to Apple OS X.
Another priority was designing a clear, functional student edition of this open-source digital audio workstation. According to the developer, the software has since become an established part of many European university and college programs and is also regularly used in experimental research.
