‘Film City Munich – The Cinema on Wheels’: Video Bus Tour of Famous Locations

From Saturday, 22 November, Munich residents and film-loving visitors will for the first time be able to discover Munich as a film city on a sightseeing tour.

On a sightseeing tour of locations used in cinema and television productions, “the city of Munich plays the leading role,” says Cultural Affairs Officer Dr. Hans-Georg Küppers. The “Film City Munich – The Cinema on Wheels” tour is designed for Munich residents, visitors and film-industry experts alike: as the bus passes each location, monitors show the corresponding scenes from the films.

Munich has much to offer—something directors including Hitchcock, Antonioni, Rossellini, Ophüls and Fassbinder already knew. The “Film City Munich” video bus tour sets out to find locations from major films connected with the city. These include Zur Sache Schätzchen (1968, May Spils; locations: Schwabing), Männer (1985, Doris Dörrie; locations: Stachus fountain and Theresienwiese), Rossini (1996, Helmut Dietl; locations: the former Romagna Antica and railway repair works), Sophie Scholl – Die letzten Tage (2005, Marc Rothemund; locations: Ludwig Maximilian University and the Palace of Justice), Shoppen (2007, Ralf Westhoff; location: National Theatre), and Oscar winner Caroline Link’s soon-to-be-released film Im Winter ein Jahr.

The tour will run for the first time on Saturday, 22 November, followed by 6 and 20 December, each from 11:30 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m. The meeting point is at the main railway station, in front of the Karstadt department store, and tickets cost EUR 25 per person. Reservations can be made through VideoBustour by email at kontakt@videobustour.de. Groups can arrange individual departure times and start and destination points directly with Autobus Oberbayern GmbH, Heidemannstraße 220, by telephone on 32304-0 or by email at verkauf@autobusoberbayern.de.

“Film City Munich – The Cinema on Wheels” is an initiative of the Film Commission Bayern and VideoBustour, supported by the City of Munich’s Department of Arts and Culture and FilmFernsehFonds Bayern (FFF), with Autobus Oberbayern GmbH as partner.
