Adobe Systems is inviting entries for the ninth annual Adobe Design Achievement Awards (ADAA). The annual competition recognizes the best graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, animators, digital filmmakers, developers and computer artists from accredited institutions of higher education around the world. With support from the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda), the awards ceremony will take place in October 2009 during the Icograda World Design Congress in Beijing. German students have already received awards several times in past years. In 2008, for example, three entrants from Germany were among the competition’s winners, with more than 2,700 students from 33 countries submitting work.
Twelve categories across interactive, motion and traditional media
Reflecting developments in interactive design and the growing importance of integrating design and development, the competition is divided into three areas: interactive, motion and traditional media. Entries in Interactive Media may be submitted in the categories Browser-Based Design, Non-Browser-Based Design, Application Development, Installation Design and Mobile Design. Motion Media categories are Animation, Film and Video, and Motion Graphics. Traditional Media categories include Illustration, Packaging Design, Photography and Print Communications.
Students from 40 countries can submit projects through the Adobe Design Achievement Awards website at http://www.adaaentry.com. Visitors can also access the interactive ADAA Live! website from there and follow new project submissions in real time.
All entries will be reviewed and evaluated by an independent jury of respected experts. Jurors include Leimei Julia Chui of Japan, Director of Global Communications at the International Design Center Nagoya (IdcN); Louis Gagnon of Canada, co-founder of Paprika Communications; Cristina Chiappini of Italy, an independent consultant; Garth Walker of South Africa, founder of Orange Juice Design, a creative agency serving some of South Africa’s leading corporate and consumer brands; Tarek Atrissi of the Netherlands, who runs his own design studio and teaches at the Department of Art, Media and Technology at the Utrecht School of the Arts; Kyle Kim of Korea, professor at the School of Design at Hongik University and co-founder of design firm UM & Partners; and Lance Wyman of the United States, owner of a graphic-design agency.
