DOK Leipzig, the Leipzig International Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, and the Gewandhaus Leipzig will present the world premiere of the documentary film “Adventures in Listening—Kurt Masur” in the Gewandhaus’s Mendelssohn Hall at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, 9 December 2008.
The 56-minute 2009 production by Amit Breuer from Canada, Brazil and Germany will be shown in its original version with German subtitles.
For more than four years, the director accompanied maestro Kurt Masur on journeys to Poland, Brazil and New York, where he teaches a new generation of conductors and musicians and shares a musical vision developed through his own life experience. The film provides deep insight into Masur’s biographical and musical roots and explores music’s depth as a vital force for life and survival. The result is a sensitive portrait of a great humanist, political figure and one of the leading conductors of our time.
The premiere will take place in the presence of the director and Professor Kurt Masur and will be accompanied by Gewandhaus musicians.

Music by the Gewandhaus Choir under Gregor Meyer; welcome by Gewandhaus director Andreas Schulz and festival director Claas Danielsen; introduction with Amit Breuer and Claas Danielsen; screening of “Adventures in Listening—Kurt Masur”; and a film discussion with Amit Breuer, Kurt Masur and Claas Danielsen.
