The eagerly awaited trophies were presented to German studios in 23 categories. Crysis stood out in particular. Crytek’s first-person shooter won “Best German Game 2008,” “Best Game Design 2008” and “Best In-Game Graphics.”

“Crysis not only set standards for graphics, but also demonstrated through its open game design and outstanding atmosphere that German developers can compete at the top of the world,” jury member Hendrik Lesser said at the German Developer Awards 2008. “We are delighted with the awards we have won and would also like to congratulate all the other winners. Drakensang and Sacred in particular show that German productions can be internationally successful and are becoming ever more successful. We thank Aruba Events, which manages each year to further establish both the German Developer Awards and the German development scene,” Crytek co-founder Avni Yerli commented.

The jury’s special award went that year to Hamburg@work and to the GC/DC team for their outstanding development work on the GC Developer Conference. The sponsorship award went to Munich developer Chimera Entertainment, which had attracted attention with “Windchaser.” The Gamesload Newcomer Award went to Berlin studio Enter-Brain-Ment. Second and third place were taken by Games Academy teams Plan B and 4 minds. At the state-recognized specialist school, young people could train in computer games through a broad range of programs.

Berlin studio Radon Labs also won three categories with Drakensang.
