MSI introduced the Wind NetBox. Thanks to its high system stability and compact dimensions of just 180 × 255 × 19 mm, the Display Attached Device (DAD) was suited to integration into public display systems and digital signage, or for use as a mini client PC. Based on energy-efficient Intel® Atom™ processor technology, the DAD required no fan and operated almost silently at under 20 dB while providing high energy efficiency.
A 120 GB 2.5-inch SATA hard drive provided sufficient storage for presentation videos or images. The integrated Intel® GMA 950 graphics solution supported a maximum resolution of 2,048 × 1,536 pixels and offered flexibility for connection to a wide range of commercially available LCD and LED displays. Three USB 2.0 ports, a 3-in-1 card reader, 802.11b/g WLAN and 10/100 Mbit Ethernet provided connectivity for internet access, printers, USB storage, external CD, DVD and Blu-ray drives, hard disks, and audio/video devices such as cameras and MP3 players. MSI offered a choice of SUSE Linux or Windows XP Home as the operating system.
For easy installation, the MSI Wind NetBox included a fixture for mounting it to any VESA-ready display as standard equipment. Like the entire Wind series, the Wind NetBox used a lightweight, energy-saving design to meet contemporary technological and customer requirements. With the latest performance-optimized Intel® Atom™ platform, consisting of an Intel® Atom™ processor and Intel® 945GSE+ICH7-M chipset, high performance no longer meant high power consumption. Even under full load, the Wind NetBox remained at an almost silent operating noise level of no more than 20 dB.
Service and availability
The warranty period was two years. Trained staff were available to assist customers with setup and fault diagnosis via the support and service number 01805-5215521 (€0.14 per minute from a German landline).
The MSI NetBox was scheduled to be available from specialist retailers from the end of January 2009, with prices starting at €269.
