The redesign of Gameforge’s most successful browser-based online game gives players much easier navigation, improvements to flight-time displays and buddy requests, a professional messaging system, technology trees, redesigned fleet dispatch and real-time updates to resource production. The redesign also opens up new gameplay possibilities: players can now take resources with them when colonizing, colonization is possible at any time from the galaxy view, and all standard fleets have been limited to a maximum of twelve units. As in all test universes, an internal ticket system allows players to actively help remove any bugs that may be present.
Despite the new OGame version, existing game rounds will not change. Gameforge CEO Klaas Kersting explained: “Our developers have been working on redesigning OGame for quite some time. With the redesign, we are thanking our players for their many years of loyalty. Of course, OGame’s development will continue energetically even after the redesign.”
For the OGame update, Gameforge brought Germany’s leading animation studio, Virgin Lands Animated Pictures, on board. Virgin Lands was responsible for revising the background graphics and the intro.
With more than 30 million registered users, OGame now has the largest community in Europe’s online gaming scene. The free browser game combines elements of economic simulation and real-time strategy and is suitable for young and old alike. For more than six years, OGame has allowed players to take on the role of an intergalactic ruler. Their task is to use different strategies, trading and warfare to steadily expand their influence across multiple galaxies.
