Four Golden Globe Nominations for “Revolutionary Road”

Paramount Pictures Germany announced that “Revolutionary Road” received nominations in four major Golden Globe categories: Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Actor and Best Director.

In the latest work from Oscar and Golden Globe winner Sam Mendes, two of the finest actors of their generation deliver outstanding performances. Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio are each competing for a Hollywood Foreign Press Association award for the sixth time at the ceremony on 11 January 2009. With nominations for Best Director and Best Picture, Mendes’s sensitive and moving relationship drama is already considered a strong favorite for the 2009 Oscars.

Synopsis: It is the search for a life without compromise. April, played by Kate Winslet, and Frank Wheeler, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, are a young couple with ambitious plans. They see themselves as individuals who challenge the prudish social conventions of the 1950s. When April becomes pregnant, the couple decide to settle in rural Connecticut. They soon realize, however, that they are living precisely the life they deeply despise. Frank has a well-paid but boring office job, while April lives as a housewife hoping for an acting career. The Wheelers hope a move to Europe will allow them to escape this construct of routine and self-deception, without noticing that the revolutionary road is unstoppable.

Following the five-time Oscar-winning “American Beauty” and the similarly acclaimed “Road to Perdition,” Mendes has again directed a moving drama about love, dreams, vanity and hope. Eleven years after the worldwide success of “Titanic,” he reunited Winslet—whose credits include “Iris,” “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “The Holiday”—and DiCaprio, known for “The Departed” and “Blood Diamond,” in front of the camera.

Supporting roles include Oscar winner Kathy Bates of “Misery” and Michael Shannon of “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead.” Richard Yates’s acclaimed novel “Revolutionary Road,” about American society and its disillusionment, provided the basis for the film.
