The story:
Princess Sophie turns 18. Salutes, cheering princes and princesses, a radiant birthday girl and presents create a Rococo idyll. Yet a shadow hangs over the day. Sophie is expected to marry the wealthy Prince Friedrich to save her father’s bankrupt kingdom. It is the legacy of her mysterious late mother—a golden ball—that changes the course of the life planned for the king’s youngest daughter, because the ball is intended to help Sophie follow her heart. As befits the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, the gift falls into the water. The Frog King retrieves it and brazenly gains access to the beautiful princess’s table and room. But when the frog jumps into her four-poster bed, the ball takes effect: Sophie frees the Frog King and defies her father. The childlike princess becomes a self-confident young woman determined to find her own way in the world.
