Combined with Logic Studio, the Apple Mac Pro remains one of the most powerful DAW systems on the market. Its exceptionally high-quality enclosure also offers a sophisticated cooling system with intelligent fan control and numerous temperature sensors that adjust fan speed to the prevailing thermal conditions. Apple uses an open, non-encapsulated system. To accommodate as much hard-drive storage as possible, the Mac Pro enclosure provides four hard-drive bays. Unfortunately, these cannot be acoustically insulated, making vibrations and especially the hard drives’ read/write heads clearly audible.
To solve this problem, Digital AudionetworX offers the Mac Pro Silent Kit. It consists of very high-quality aluminum enclosures for the hard drives that eliminate low-frequency humming and suppress read/write noise. The enclosed hard drives are also cooled more effectively by the mass of the casing. Because of space constraints, the Apple DVD drive must be moved to an external enclosure. The drive is installed in a 5.25-inch enclosure.
