The festival takes place annually in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah. It is the world’s most important platform for independent American and international productions. Many independent filmmakers owe their breakthrough to the festival, including Kevin Smith, Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino, James Wan, Marc Forster and Jim Jarmusch. The festival also brought a number of films into the public eye, such as Saw, The Blair Witch Project, El Mariachi, Clerks, Sex, Lies, and Videotape, Napoleon Dynamite, American Splendor, Super Size Me, Donnie Darko and, most recently, Little Miss Sunshine.
