Sonnet Technologies is launching the Fusion DX800RAID today. The storage system, with eight drive bays and an integrated SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) expander, allows up to 16 additional drive enclosures to be connected through a single Sonnet RAID controller.
The latest addition to the Fusion series provides the speed required to work with uncompressed 10-bit 1080 HD video. RAID functionality provides the necessary data security and continuous monitoring within large RAID arrays—for the first time, Sonnet offers RAID 5 and 6 for greater data security if as many as two drives fail. The system can be expanded in stages.
“The Fusion DX800RAID enclosure makes it particularly easy for users to expand their storage system. As soon as additional storage is needed, it can be quickly deployed with the DX800 without requiring another PCI Express slot for an adapter,” explains Robert Farnsworth, CEO of Sonnet. “When users work with as many as 16 connected drives, the RAID 6 configuration offers substantial protection against drive failures—valuable data is protected as effectively as possible.”
The new product was developed to provide a reliable, flexible and powerful direct-access storage system for office and studio use. With its eight drives, the DX800RAID in RAID 5 guarantees high data security if one drive fails. It delivers transfer speeds of up to 680 MB/sec or 640 MB/sec—sufficient for LOG RGB editing and playback of a 2K stream (2048 x 1556). When as many as 16 enclosures are used in one RAID array, data security is maintained even if two drives fail.
At the same time as the Fusion DX800RAID launch, Sonnet is now offering RAID 6 functionality for all Fusion RAID desktop and rackmount systems. Users can download the new software from http://www.sonnettech.com.
The Fusion DX800RAID also complies with SES (SCSI Enclosure Services) 2.0 technology, familiar from enterprise storage, and offers enhanced S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology) functionality for recording critical operating data from every installed drive. SES displays drive, power-supply and temperature data in real time through the Utilities application and the clearly arranged LEDs directly on the enclosure.
S.M.A.R.T. can also be used to warn users according to defined criteria before critical operating conditions occur. The Fusion DX800RAID storage system has eight bays and ships with eight formatted (Mac OS) 3.5-inch RAID/Enterprise Edition hard drives, a Sonnet RAID controller card, two rugged two-meter Mini-SAS data cables, a power cable, and a software CD and manual. Four- and six-meter cables are available as options.
