On January 22 and 23, 2009, the worlds of brands, media and mobile technology will meet in Munich at the renowned M-Days congress and trade fair, held this year under the motto “The Home of Mobile”. For DETECON International, this is the ideal setting to present future visions and trends in mobile TV and video during the “Moving Images” panel on the second day.

Erding/Munich, January 20, 2009: Management and technology consultancy DETECON International will present the latest trends and visions in mobile TV at M-Days in Munich on January 23. Falk Wöhler-Moorhoff, Managing Consultant in Strategy & Marketing at DETECON International, will present ways of delivering television and video content to smartphones, PDAs and mobile phones using modern transmission and mobile technologies as part of the “Moving Images” panel.

Transmission protocols that enable mobile TV, such as 3G, DVB-T, DVB-H, MediaFLO and DMB, are now available in various regions around the world. At the same time, research confirms a growing trend for users to access moving-image content on their devices. YouTube is now among the most-used applications on the portals of some mobile network operators. This raises the question: what formats and market strategies are required to establish moving-image applications sustainably in the mass market?

In his M-Days presentation, Falk Wöhler-Moorhoff will not only introduce the technical platforms that enable mass-market mobile TV services, but also analyse different business models involving close cooperation between the new mobile TV players and major telecommunications and media companies. Using market examples, Wöhler-Moorhoff will also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of various payment models, from direct charges to advertising-funded services.

The DETECON contribution will also address ways to increase customer acceptance. User-friendly operation, intuitive menu navigation and the best possible image quality are essential for retaining customers over the long term. The pioneer of this development: Apple’s iPhone.

The fourth M-Days on January 22 and 23, 2009 will provide detailed insight into trends and developments in mobile web, mobile marketing, mobile entertainment, mobile commerce, location-based services and mobile media. The focus is on cross-media integration into the traditional marketing mix and media networking. More than 400 participants are expected at the established professional congress.

For the first time, an open trade fair will also accompany the congress at BMW Welt in Munich. An exhibition area of more than 1,400 square metres will provide an information and networking platform for the mobile, brand and media industries. Individual exhibitors’ workshops can be attended independently of the professional congress.
