MASCHINE combines a powerful software sequencer and sampler with a seamlessly integrated, highly functional performance controller. By combining fast, intuitive groove-box operating concepts with the versatility and flexibility of software, MASCHINE provides an especially direct and inspiring workflow for computer-based music production.
MASCHINE is based on an intelligent combination of the best operating concepts from popular groove boxes and drum machines, expanding them to incorporate the benefits of a computer setup.
Flexible step sequencing and polyphonic real-time recording, combined with an advanced pattern-based arrangement approach, allow ideas to be implemented spontaneously and developed efficiently into complete tracks. MASCHINE was designed specifically to support every phase of the creative process intuitively, from beat programming to the creation of complex multitimbral arrangements.
The sophisticated MASCHINE controller is a natural extension of the software and makes the system feel like a real instrument. Its 16 rugged velocity- and pressure-sensitive pads offer exceptionally precise response and can use dynamic backlighting to visualize sequence patterns and other parameters. Eight rotary controls, two high-resolution displays and clearly arranged button panels provide direct control of every MASCHINE function without a mouse or computer keyboard. All functions are quickly and directly accessible, avoiding complex nested submenus. The MASCHINE hardware also serves as a universal MIDI controller for any MIDI-compatible equipment and software, assisted by the included MIDI-mapping application and MCU protocol support.
MASCHINE is built around a powerful high-resolution sampler engine, delivering detailed drum and percussion kits as well as polyphonic sample-based instrument sounds with striking sonic precision, supported by automatic sample mapping, beat slicing, Note Repeat and much more. Sophisticated real-time recording features, including resampling, also make it possible to record, process and integrate both internal and external audio signals directly into a running track without interrupting the flow of the music. Multiple multi-effects sections in the software each offer an arsenal of 20 high-quality algorithms, all optimized for deep sound manipulation and spontaneous creative intervention via the MASCHINE controller.
MASCHINE’s included sound library offers an extensive collection of professional material for contemporary electronic music styles. Based on several gigabytes of samples, it provides hundreds of drum kits, synthesizer sounds and acoustic instrument sounds created in collaboration with international producers and sound designers. All kits, instruments, samples and effects can be searched and managed efficiently by category and metadata using the practical MASCHINE browser.
Functions such as parameter automation, sample mapping and sound editing are always directly accessible through the controller and within the software’s carefully designed single-window interface. MASCHINE can be used either independently as a standalone instrument or as a plug-in within all common software sequencers. It combines all the advantages of a computer—total recall, superior processing power, storage and file management, easy project transfer and more—with the inspiring immediacy and intuitive feel of a hardware instrument.
MASCHINE will be available from March 2009 at a recommended retail price of €599.
