MHMK Media Project Management Course Enters Second Round

Media Project Management is the title of a part-time, modular qualification program with a university certificate at the Macromedia University of Applied Sciences for Media and Communication (MHMK). The course is primarily aimed at project managers in the media industry.

The weekend course at the Macromedia University of Applied Sciences for Media and Communication (MHMK) began in October 2008. From project acquisition and project control to communication and presentation, its nine modules cover all relevant fields of project management.

A particular feature is that the modules are geared toward the sometimes highly specialized requirements of media projects. Following an update that provided the relevant basic knowledge, the project acquisition module took place later in October and focused primarily on acquisition techniques, competitive presentations, negotiation and problem analysis, alongside other topics.

The November module focused on preparing proposals and contracts. Transparent, fair and legally sound proposals and contracts are, after all, the basis for constructive collaboration among project partners.

After the fourth module, devoted specifically to costing, the Media Project Management course has now effectively reached its halfway point. Participants are enthusiastic about the quality of the program. “I particularly like the way the lecturers respond very individually to participants’ needs. Spreading the course across several weekends allows me to apply the highly practical knowledge immediately in my daily work and experience the benefits directly,” said Anja Ivani, marketing manager for Corporate Finance, Consumer Business, Aviation & Transport Services, and Energy & Resources at Deloitte.

“Unlike university students, the participants here already bring a wide range of professional experience. Everyone benefits from that, and choosing this intensive course was the right decision.” That assessment is hardly surprising given the distinguished team of lecturers.

Professor Anne König led the January module on organizational, information and knowledge management.

“Project management is theoretical leadership knowledge for a structured approach to projects and encompasses an extensive toolbox of methods. But theory is of no use if you have not already experienced the challenges of projects in everyday work,” said Professor König, who teaches business administration at TU Berlin. “That is why this intensive seminar, aimed at professionals in the media industry, is designed exactly right. It refreshes theoretical knowledge from all areas of project management, demonstrates its application in everyday work through concrete examples, and critically reflects on it with participants,” she continued.

“The industry focus is very important, because a construction project or a development contract may require the same methods, but their day-to-day implementation is very different. That is precisely what participants are meant to learn: how to make theory useful for successful projects in practice, so projects are delivered on time, on budget and at the required quality.” With an approach incorporating project examples, case studies and business games, both the strong practical focus and the transfer into professional life are assured.

Macromedia will offer the high-quality qualification again beginning in May 2009. Detailed information is available at http://www.macromedia.de/projektmanagement or from seminare@macromedia.de.
