Sony is presenting its HDC series for HD live production at Sony Professional World. The Berlin stop concluded with another attendance record, and Sony announced two new contracts. Berlin production company TopVision, which specializes in live coverage of major national and international events, added three HDC-1000 cameras to its fleet. fernsehwerft GmbH equipped its studios under construction with an initial three HDC-1500 cameras.
TopVision planned to use the cameras during the FIS ski-flying tour final in Oberstdorf. The HDC-1000’s ergonomics and viewfinder placement close to the lens axis are designed to help operators react quickly to unexpected action and capture movement and emotion directly. TopVision participated in further development of the HDC-1000 for demanding live-production requirements.
The three new units bring TopVision’s inventory to eleven HDC-1000 cameras and approximately 45 HDC-1500/1550 cameras. The company also operates six HDC-3300 HD super-motion cameras. The new HDC-1000 units were first used at the World Cup ski jumping event in Willingen on February 10 and were subsequently scheduled for football World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein in Leipzig and Wales in Cardiff.
Berlin television-services company fernsehwerft, a sister company of A-Medialynx GmbH providing television production, playout and satellite services, also invested in the Sony HDC series. The first three HDC-1500 cameras were delivered for two HD studios in a new production and office building at Berlin’s Osthafen. Studio 3 was scheduled for completion by the end of February and Studio 4 by the end of April. Each studio was planned to operate eight HDC-1500 cameras. fernsehwerft and A-Medialynx were due to move into the 6,900-square-meter building in February.
Sony Professional World
The event was presenting Sony Professional’s complete product portfolio for the first time, ranging from HD film and television cameras through networked production environments and conference systems to presentation solutions and projectors. After Cologne and Berlin, the final event was scheduled for February 17, 2009, at Wappenhalle, Konrad-Zuse-Platz 8, 81829 Munich.
